Statement of Intent 

      The title of my final major project is ‘Delicate Situations’ which I will explore through photograph. I will work towards producing photographs that explore ideas relating to delicate situations such as abuse (self or non-self). I aim to show how abuse effects a person mentally, physically and emotionally; with the use of makeup, lighting and viewpoint. Also, I will be manipulating my photographs using mix media and my final outcome with a mix-media photo, perhaps incorporating stitch or burning.  As a result of my stage-2 projection work, I want to experiment this technique by incorporating it into my final major project and develop it further.

       My first starting points will be to collect primary source images and research my influential artists. My primary photos will be close up portrait photographs exploring abuse/experimental makeup and composition (the position of the figure within the camera frame.) Some artists/photographs I already have research are: Steve Kraitt, for his bold colours; Chris Devour, for his dark, mysterious photograph projects; Florian Nicole, for his mix-media/distressed portrait pieces; KK DePaul, for his different compositions in each piece; Sally Mankus, for her image transfer pieces; Scott Hazard, for his layering/ripping/burning photograph pieces and Idris Kkan for his memory/multiple exposure photographs.

      Research week 1: I am going to record my primary images using film and digital photography and I will find my contextual research using the internet and books. I am also writing my statement of intent.

Experimentation week2-4: I will then start my experiments, exploring a range of approaches, using film cameras, projections, developer, exposure techniques and also digital and physical effects to create a distressed feel. I will also be using mix-media to combine layers. I also will write a dissertation and start my blog.

Further development week5-7: Here I will start my development, exploring composition, colour, layout and layering to develop even further my most successful experiments. I will also be responding to my researched artists using aspects of their work to influence my own ideas. I will then create a range of design ideas for my final piece/outcome and refine the final design.

Final outcome week8-9: In this week I will create my final piece, I will use the most successful idea from my design ideas to communicate my idea effectively. I will also be writing a supporting statement to outline the progress of my ideas.

In my final two weeks of my project, I will be exhibiting my project in an end of year show, where I will consider how to effectively exhibit my work. I will use peer assessment, asking peers what they think of my project to gain further opinion on my exhibit and I will also be writing an artist statement to give an overview of my work.

      Throughout my project, I will review and analyse my work in a variety of ways. These will include, peer reviews, pitching my project, discussions with tutors, use of blog and feedback and annotating throughout. I will also write a dissertation and a supporting statement at the end of my project to see if I have fulfilled my intentions throughout my project judging it’s success and identifying what could be improved. Also, I will collect feedback and respond from my peer assessments in order to inform my work/ideas.

9	Finalise final outcome. Write an evaluation and supporting statement about my project.
